Hi there! I’m Brian MacMillan and thanks for visiting my blog.
I’m a meteorologist, a news reporter, and you may even find me anchoring sports or traffic on KPTV-FOX 12 in Portland, Oregon. I’m also a husband, a father, a board game connoisseur, a mediocre golfer and soccer player, and a professional goofball.
My love for broadcasting started in high school in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. There, I anchored my first TV newscasts and was a play-by-play announcer for sporting events. I got the broadcasting itch and it never went away (maybe there’s a cream for that).
I graduated with bachelor’s degrees in communication (Washington State University) and meteorology (Mississippi State University). I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in strategic communication at WSU. After stops at a Seattle area advertising agency, and KOHD in Bend, Oregon, I joined KPTV in Portland in 2009. That was an incredibly short ten years ago.
One of my career goals is to find new ways to communicate with viewers, so here we are!
This blog is designed to give you a look at my job in Portland television news. I’ll dive into the weather and news stories we cover and show you some things you may not see on TV. If you have any questions or comments, make sure to join the conversation!
